Work Experience - Resolutions
Many companies, particularly SME’s, are simply unable to offer employees a time off volunteering policy due to work restraints. Yet this doesn’t mean that community involvement can’t happen. Resolutions, a small event firm based in Farringdon, were keen to support their local community but as a small team of six with a busy schedule of events, they needed to find an alternative to the more traditional team challenge or sharing skills route. So, for the past two years Resolutions have recruited a young person from a Tower Hamlets Secondary school to spend two weeks at their offices as part of their work experience programme. The team make every effort to involve each young person in the running of the company so that they leave with a real experience and understanding of the world of work and the kind of skills that are required.
For Resolutions it’s a win-win situation:
“The placements are great from our point of view. The young people are a pleasure to have in the office and do all that we ask and more. We hope that we are supporting them to develop their knowledge of the world of work and raise their aspirations. We also receive much appreciated support at our busiest time of year!” Kate Scrafton, Events Manager
| My work experience at Resolutions was remarkable and I gained numerous skills while I was there. I took part in a variety of jobs from faxing to database management and reserach. The employees were exceptionally helpful and guided me through difficult jobs. I learnt essential office skills and more importantly how a business operates.
