The City Action Website is owned and operated by the Mayor and Commonalty and Citizens of the City of London (“the City of London”) of PO Box 270 Guildhall London EC2P 2EJ. City Action is a project funded by the City of London and acts as a free volunteering broker to facilitate the transfer of time, skills and resources between City firms and community-based organisations in the City and the seven surrounding boroughs: Camden, Hackney, Islington, Lambeth, Southwark, Tower Hamlets and Westminster.

By accessing and using the Website you agree to be bound by the terms and conditions as updated from time to time. If you are under 16, please make sure that you obtain your parent/guardian’s permission before providing any personal information to the City of London via the City Action Website.
The terms and conditions may change from time to time without notice. The date of the latest update will be displayed on the Website. If you do not agree to any change you should not continue to use the Website.

You acknowledge and agree that all messages you as a user post to the weblog on the Website are subject to moderation by the City of London. The City of London has the right to decide in its complete discretion whether a message is appropriate to be displayed on the Website.


The City of London is committed to the highest standard and quality of information and every attempt has been made to present up-to-date accurate information. However, the Website is provided “as is” and the City of London gives no warranty as to the accuracy of the information on the Website. The City of London shall not be liable for any losses or damages arising from the use of the Website including reliance on information contained on the Website except in respect of death or personal injury caused by our negligence or in respect of fraud.

The Website has not been written to meet the individual requirements of users and it is the responsibility of users to satisfy themselves prior to using this information in any way that it is suitable for their purposes.

Although the City of London takes all reasonable measures to ensure that the information provided to them from third parties is accurate and not defamatory it cannot control the content or take responsibility for pages maintained by external providers or linked pages.

The City of London shall have no liability for the security of content or for any message or content posted by you or for any disruption or interruption of the Website.

The City of London is not responsible for any opinion expressed via the Website. Opinions expressed are those of individuals and the City of London does not necessarily agree with any of those opinions.


All intellectual property rights including copyright, Database Right, First Publication Rights, patents, Registered Trade Marks, know-how, intellectual or industrial property rights including format, art direction, look and feel and content of the Website subsisting throughout the World shall vest in the City of London.

None of the data or content found on the Website may be reproduced, published, distributed, posted or transferred modified or linked to another website without the express written permission of the City of London. Any trade mark, logo, crest or other identifiable emblem of the City of London or City Action shall remain the property of the City of London at all times and no licence or right to use any of the same shall be granted or implied in any way.

Users may not modify, copy, distribute, transmit, display, reproduce, publish, licence or create derivative works or sell any information obtained from the Website. Users may download information or images for private non-commercial viewing purposes only.

Availability of the website

The City of London will use its reasonable endeavours to ensure the availability of the Website and that transmissions are error free. However, due to the nature of the Internet it is not technically possible for the City of London to provide a completely fault free service and the City of London gives no guarantees or warranties express or implied as to the quality or reliability of access to this Website.

Privacy statement

In order to take part in the City Action weblog provided by the Website you are required to register. If you choose to register you will need to provide the following personal information: name, job title, employer and email address.

The City of London is the Data Controller of the personal information you disclose via the Website or by email and will comply with our legal obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998 and the following principles:

  • Personal data should be processed fairly and lawfully. This means that individuals should not be deceived or misled into supplying information.
  • Data should only be obtained for a specified purpose and should not be used for any other purpose.
  • Personal data should be adequate relevant and not excessive in relation to its purpose.
  • Personal data should be accurate and up to date where necessary.
  • Personal data should not be kept longer than is needed for its intended purpose.
  • Personal data should be processed in accordance with the rights of the individual which the information concerns.
  • Appropriate measures should be taken against unlawful processing or destruction of records. Computer systems should have back up facilities and security provisions.
  • Personal data should not be transferred outside the European Economic Area (the EU states plus Lichtenstein, Iceland and Norway).

The information we collect from you enables us to facilitate the transfer of time, skills and resources between City businesses and community-based organisations, and to verify the identity of persons submitting comments via the weblog, to moderate comments and prevent inappropriate messages being posted.

The City of London will not disclose any personal information to third parties unless we have requested and obtained your express consent to such disclosure or we are required to disclose by law. We may however disclose anonymised comments you have submitted through the online weblog.

The City of London and the City Action team would like to use your information for the purpose of providing you with material about the work of the City of London and/or more specific material about City Action which it is believed may be of interest to you and for related marketing purposes. This material will only be provided to you if you have ticked the relevant opt-in box on your Registration Form to participate in the weblog.

If at any time you wish to receive material about the work of the City of London which you currently do not receive or if you wish to stop receiving any material, you may request amendment or removal of your preferences by amending the opt-in box on your Registration Form.

The personal data collected by the City of London will be evaluated periodically to determine whether it should continue to hold such data. Subject to any legal retention requirements you may notify the City of London if you do not wish data to be continually held by the City of London or require the information to be updated or inaccuracies corrected. The City of London shares the general concern over the safety and security of personal information on the Internet and has implemented procedures to promote the safety and security of information we collect online. However, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. We cannot therefore guarantee that personal information will be kept secure.

Transmission and transfer of data outside the EU

Because the Internet infrastructure is global and it is not possible to predict the routes that information sent over the Internet will take, the information you provide may be transmitted temporarily via a route which takes it outside the European Economic Area (EEA) as it passes between you and the City of London. By submitting your information you consent to such transmission.

The personal information entered in any of the surveys (only available to City Action members) will be stored and processed by Survey Monkey using its servers in the USA, in accordance with its privacy policy and the Safe Harbor scheme. It will then be transferred to the City of London when formulating the survey results. The City of London will process your information in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998, and will use your information for client management and evaluation purposes only. By entering your information in the surveys, you are confirming that you consent to your information being processed in this way.

The City of London shall not transfer any other user data outside the EEA except where a user registers on the Website in a country or territory outside the EEA. You acknowledge that countries or territories outside the EEA do not provide the same level of data protection as the EEA.
